The HDMI licensing company released today the specifications for the HDMI adapter mode developed by the HDMI creator for USB Type-C. This allows HDMI enabled source devices to be directly connected to HDMI enabled displays using a USB Type-C connector, without the need for cumbersome protocols and connector adapters or hardware protection devices, transmitting the HDMI signal of the device through a single cable.
This release realizes the collaboration of two of the most popular connectivity solutions currently available. The USB Type-C connector has a compact appearance, can be plugged in both directions, and has multiple uses, widely used in smartphones, tablets, and personal computer products. HDMI is a leading display interface that has been installed on billions of monitors. It is expected that the shipment of HDMI enabled display devices will reach nearly 290 million units in 2016, including projectors, monitors, and 100% flat screen televisions.
